Ride for Refuge
On October 3rd I had the opportunity to join thousands of people across Canada and the United States in support of local charities. People biked, walked, fundraised, donated, and volunteered their time and abilities to raise money for organizations that matter to them and their community.
I first found out about Ride for Refuge a little over a year ago when a friend of mine was raising money in preparation for Ride Day. She was participating through an organization called Matthew House Ottawa, where she works to provide housing and support for local refugees.
This fall, while speaking with an employee at The Bridge Fellowship Centre, I was asked to volunteer as a photographer on ride day. The Bridge is a church and soup kitchen in the Riversdale neighbourhood of Saskatoon that is in a time of transition as they are searching for funds to complete necessary renovations to move into their new home. While at Kinasao this summer, we gave the campers opportunities to donate their canteen money to The Bridge rather than spending it on snacks and candy. The kids raised just shy of $2000 for this ministry and I was excited about the idea of serving them in another way.
The Ride in Saskatoon this year was also in support of Defend Dignity, Joy Smith Foundation, Christians Against Poverty, Mennonite Church Canada, and Mercy Ships Canada.
It was a cool, rainy day in Saskatoon, but that didn't stop participants from riding with a smile! Here are some images that I captured during the 2015 Saskatoon Ride for Refuge.
